Thomas and d-landscape:
Grew up in a village in west Germany
In the early years of my life, my family and I discovered that I had an early interest in nature and planting, as I was pretty much always outside helping my parents with the garden work, or at
the family farm. They’ve always supported me in this interest and encouraged me to come up with creative ways to solving problems.
It was an obvious decision for me to studiy Landscape Architecture. It was also one way to develop habitats for all kinds of living creatures, (plants, animals and humans) in various ways. It was
always a great feeling to see something that I created in my mind become a reality and also part of the ecosystem.
During my studies I realized how easy it was to get in touch with people from different cultures and areas of the world. I volunteered in helping young students from the Middle East begin their
life in Germany and I also atteneded an Arabic language course at the University. This introduced me to the Middle Eastern culture and travelling in general. The social aspect of planning became
important to me when I moved abroad for the first time, for my Bachelor and Master theses, to Bangkok and Ramallah.
This was an important experience for me as it showed me that people’s needs to their environment is almost the same all over the world, i.e. everyone wants a green envrionment for relaxing,
meeting people etc. I learned that not only geographic location, but also cultural background plays a big role when creating open spaces.
After finishing my Master thesis I started working in Saudi Arabia. The challenge to make desert areas green was inspiring to me and gave me many opportunities to come up with ideas that I would
never normally have the chance to do.
Since 2016 im back in Germany.
Im working in a regular office and besight im following my dream about designing and landscape architecture hand in hand.
To me Landscape Architecture is more than just a „green job“, it’s a philisophy where you create an image of a city, village or region influenced by the social structures of that society combined
with the geographical knowlegde and skills of the designer. This skill don't even work in Landscape architecture. They re essential for any kind of design.
